Artist Statement
My general work revolves around classical approaches: the enduring artistic qualities that were valued in the past and are still relevant today. As an artist, it is my intention to pay tribute to traditional artmaking techniques and perceptions that have prevailed in religious and classic art. Finding inspiration in what was previously cherished, I focus on developing impressionistic textures in painting and condensed naturalistic details in drawing. Since the beginning of my artistic journey, my pieces have aimed to encapsulate themes that explore concepts of a higher power, notions of devoted dignity, and the connection between human portrayal and its embodied sentimentalism, collectively diving into elements of narrative, gestural expression, and symbolism. Currently, my work consists primarily of oil underpaintings and graphite illustrations, depicting subtle contemporary approaches that continue to commemorate classical values. Inspired by the celebrated masters and seeking to learn from their direction, I aim to honor traditional historic art.

In my most recent series, Divina Prevalencia: The Timeless Beauty of Transcending Devotions, my work invites viewers to contemplate the interrelation between divinity and humanity. Divina Prevalencia is a collection that intends to explore the timeless magnetism, endurance, and influence of classic Renaissance art and Gothic, Christian imagery. With pieces that focus on encapsulating the solemn and spiritual depth associated with sacred connotations, heavenly elements, theological figures, and religious iconography, this project seeks to honor archetypal Catholic, Greek, and Roman aesthetics. This creative series meditates on the intricate human passions associated with historical depictions and devotional ambitions. Following the principles and persuasions of reverent portraiture, this compilation seeks to foster an understanding and appreciation of classicism, evoking a sense of homage, reimagination, and high regard to former artistic periods and legacies.

Artist Background
Galilea Galvan Juarez, of Mexican descent, experienced the limitations of language barriers after immigrating to the United States, resulting in her engagement with visual art as an alternative form of expression. After graduating high school with an artistic sense of direction, she enrolled in Texas A&M University-Commerce in Fall of 2020 to become an art student. Years later, as a result of the generosity received from members of her parish during a broken leg and a lost home, Galvan Juarez started creating religious portraits as a gesture of appreciation, which converted into an aesthetical inclination. Throughout her artistic career, Galvan Juarez has been recipient of the June Widman Kidder Memorial Art Scholarship, The Benchmark Scholarship, and the 2023 Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Grant. In her most recent group exhibition, Diverse Expressions: A Versatile and Collective Vision, audiences were presented with miscellaneous perspectives across individual convictions, suggesting multicultural influences and personal values, celebrating varied points of view and their collective assemblage.
